“Louth set the pace for the first Age Friendly Business Programme in Ardee in 2012 which has been replicated in the national programme we are now witnessing all over Ireland” says Mary Deery, Louth Age Friendly Coordinator.

The Louth Age Friendly Business Programme is fully supported by the Louth Older People’s Forum and Harry McCarthy, Louth’s rep on the National Older People’s Council welcomes the Clanbrassil St businesses’ decision to embrace Age Friendly.

Joan Martin, Chief Executive, Louth County Council and President of the EU Covenant on Demographic Change welcomes the support of the Dundalk BIDS and businesses in Clanbrassil St to the Age Friendly principles. “Louth County Council is very proud of the refurbishment project in Clanbrassil St and we did listen to the voice of older people in their submission when we were developing the design. To have businesses now also become Age Friendly is a real success story for the Louth Age Friendly County Programme.”

Colette Moss, Senior Executive Officer, Louth County Council is delighted to have delivered this initiative in partnership with the Age Friendly Programme, the Dundalk Bids Office and the businesses involved and would like to thank the businesses involved for participating in this worthwhile programme.

Why was Dundalk Credit Union Chosen?

Dundalk Credit Union has members from a few weeks old to some approaching 100 years and the approach remains the same, good customer service, a supportive and welcoming place to come into and the promise that our members are our focus.  Many of the founding members in 1968 are still with us and have introduced Dundalk Credit Union to their families and friends.  Our members stay with us because we have something to offer at every age for every stage of life.  You are more than just a number with Dundalk Credit Union.

Louth County Council and Louth Age Friendly Alliance recognised the long-term commitment and ongoing welcome that Dundalk Credit Union affords every member, across all ages of life.  Apart from our inclusive welcome, our office infrastructure and facilities lend themselves well to begin an Age Friendly Business.

As part of being Age Friendly, we now have an Age Friendly Champion staff member, Frances Molloy and also have an Age Friendly Brand Ambassador, Harry Lee, a lifetime member at Dundalk Credit Union.

What’s involved in earning the Age Friendly Badge?

As part of being an Age Friendly Business, we have a programme of staff training, continued community support and member communications and campaigns planned for 2021 that will benefit and focus on our older members.  Our aim is that everyone feels that they always remain at the centre of what we stand for, regardless of their age – We are real people, we are a real community, we are your Credit Union.
