Update of CU Online and PSD2 Requirements
We are delighted to inform you that our CU Online platform will be updated to a fresh new design with enhanced security features from Saturday 14th September.
The new security features are in compliance with the requirements of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). These features include Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) which will require the use of One Time Passwords (OTP) sent to your registered mobile device.
What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?
Strong Customer Authentication is a process of authenticating a user when they attempt to perform certain actions with their online banking. Strong Customer Authentication requires that you authenticate yourself to the system by using two of three of the following methods;
- Something you know e.g. PIN or password
- Something you have e.g. mobile device
- Something you are e.g. fingerprint or facial recognition
We will be implementing Strong Customer Authentication through the use of your existing username, password and a One Time Password sent to your registered mobile device.
So what does this mean for you?
Firstly, the new enhanced design will be easier to use and will provide a much better user experience with your online account.
Secondly, you will be required to use a One Time Password when you wish to;
- Log in
- Set up a payment beneficiary
- Create or amend a recurring payment
The One Time Password will be sent to your registered mobile device as a secure text message when you want to carry out any of the above actions.
What do I need to do?
If you already have your current mobile number registered with us you don’t need to do anything.
If your current mobile number is not registered with us you will need to contact us and provide your current mobile number so that we can register it.
You can check if your mobile number is registered with us by logging in to CU Online before 14th September and checking the “Mobile No” field of the “Personal Details” section. If there is no number or the number is not correct please contact the Credit Union on 042 93 35489.
You will not be able to log in to CU Online past the 14th September without a registered mobile device.
Logging in after the update
For your first log in following the update you will need to use your Username, PIN and Password to log in and activate the One Time Password security feature. One this is activated you will no longer need the PIN. The One Time Password will be used instead and a new password will be sent to your mobile device each time it is needed.
Mobile app
The current version of the mobile app will work in the same way as before. However, it will now require you to log in to CU Online using Strong Customer Authentication at least once every 90 days.
The update to the CU Online website is designed for mobile devices and we recommend using this while a new version of the CU Online app id being developed.
